Storage Tips

Storage Tips

– Dishes and glasses should be wrapped in newspaper, dishcloths or bubble wrap and packed in sturdy boxes with cushioned tops and bottoms.

– Furniture with drawers can be utilized as storage places for knick-knacks, china, silverware and other small items. Wrap them in your tablecloths, towels or blankets.

– Boxes should be stacked on 2’x4′ boards or pallets to prevent dampness damage (concrete floors can become cold and damp).

– Plan you storage space. Place those items you may need to get to more often in front.

– Use uniformly sized boxes for easy stacking. Boxes can be purchased from us or you can pick them up free at many grocery stores.

– List contents of boxes on all four sides; number the boxes; seal them with masking or packaging tape.

– Pictures and mirrors should be wrapped in cardboard or paper pad, marked “FRAGILE” and stacked on end.

– Large appliances make excellent “packing cases” for blankets, towels and clothing.

– Tables with removable legs should be broken down to save space.

-Sofas and loveseats can be stored on end to save floor space (tie hide-a-beds closed). Always place a protective cover under the end that rests on the floor. Cushions should be wrapped in plastic and placed on top.

– Cover stuffed furniture with cardboard, plastic or old bedding to protect against dust.

– Mattresses should be propped up so they stand straight to prevent them from bending out of shape, and should be covered to protect against dust.
